Description
The Cree gathering and dwelling place for trappers and their families located in Moose Factory. The dwellings are summer wigwams made of bent over willow trees lashed together with tree roots, vines or string. The roof covering was usually of tarp, plastic, hide or large blankets to keep out the rain and secure heat. Notice the stove pipes in the middle. This Cree village was located on a flat area with the Anglican Church seen in the far background. Beyond the Anglican Church was located the HBC post. The Crees gathered here in the summer months to trade, feast and celebrate with each other after a long winter trapping far inland on their hunting family territories.
