These photos take you back to Cree life in the western James Bay area at the time of Treaty No. 9. They are from the huge collection at the Archives Deschâtelets at St. Paul University, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. If you are a young James Bay Cree, you might see your great-grandparents when they were your age.
An animal hide either moose or caribou stretched out on a frame made from pine, balsam or spruce trees. Hides were used for clothing such as moccasins, mitts and fur hats.
