Information

I want to tell you my story, as a boy growing up in this community. Life was hard growing up for everyone. Besides
hunting, there were very few skills but carpentry and other jobs. The only skill a young man was taught is how to
hunt and trap and bush survival. The boys and girls were taught by their parents. The boy with his father, and the
girl with her mother were both taught the skills needed to carry on and survive. Trapping and hunting was most
important in the old days. We didn’t pay attention to the white man’s education as their life was different from ours.
The natives were skilled in making their own tools, they made their own canoes with birch bark and later canvas on
the canoe. We were shown how to make snowshoes, paddles and all the basic tools.
